Townsville City Council is committed to the revitalisation of the city through its major projects.
Yolanda Drive is a main arterial road through Annandale. Council is committed to maintaining and upgrading Townsville's roads, drains and water networks along with associated infrastructure.
As such, works to upgrade Yolanda Drive, Annandale, between University Road roundabout and Fardon Street, are to occur from 3 June 2013. These works are expected to take at least three months, finishing in late August, weather permitting.
The Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) is the Commonwealth Government provided funding arrangement to assist payment for natural disaster relief and recovery costs to State and Local governments. It is the primary mechanism used by the Queensland Government for providing assistance to communities affected by natural disaster events across the state.
The $25 million Townsville Recreational Boating Park is an initiative to provide the recreational boating community with a major sheltered all-tide facility. The boating park will include various resources and be fully accessible to people with disabilities. Access to the boat ramps will be for boats with a mast height of less than 6m, which can navigate under the new bridge down stream.
In February 2009 Townsville City Council undertook a feasibility study on the Nelly Bay to Arcadia Walkway. The study found that the walkway would increase safety of vehicular, pedestrian and cycling traffic and would greatly improve the accessibility to a broad range of users.
The walkway will form a key part in the recreational infrastructure on Magnetic Island and the delivery of the project will improve safety for both pedestrians and cyclists on Magnetic Island.
The Shared Pathway Network Program delivers new pathway networks to service the pedestrian and bicycle needs of the Townsville community. The program focuses on creating pathway networks radiating from, and connecting hubs such as schools, shopping centres and community facilities. Most new pathways are constructed in concrete, are 2.5m wide, and allow pedestrians and bicycles to share the space. Projects Include:
The Jezzine Barracks Redevelopment is to become a valuable public asset for the people of Townsville as a major heritage and community site. The funding partners, Townsville City Council, Commonwealth Government and Queensland Government are cooperating with the Jezzine Barracks Community Trust to deliver this pivotal project to Townsville’s community with a total project value of $40 million.
The Townsville Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy (Adaptation Strategy) Pilot Project will demonstrate how Queensland's coastal councils can better prepare coastal communities for projected sea level rise, storm tide and erosion risks, including the impacts of climate change up to 2100.
Townsville City Council is to replace the demolished public toilet building at Horseshoe Bay and build new toilets in its place.
Council has contracted Knight Constructions to commence works on the new public toilet building from mid December 2012 with works expected to be completed by Easter 2012.
Five unisex temporary port-a-loos are located adjacent to the old public toilets from Monday 10 December and will be in place until such time as the new public toilets are working, expected to be in late March 2013.
