Geospatial Solutions manages Townsville City Council's Geographic Information System (GIS), a database of spatially-referenced information that can be used to produce maps or to find answers to specific land-related questions (for example, land use and ownership, elevation, zoning). The advantage of GIS over paper maps, is that it can be constantly updated and queried to produce the specific information you want and leave out what you don't want. The dynamic nature of GIS is making it the decision-making tool of the future at local, state, national and international level.

Townsville City Councils investment in GIS has enabled Townsville to become a leader in the development and application of GIS to municipal planning and management. Our cadastral information is accurate to within 0.1m of the Australian Mapping Grid in urban areas (the most accurate information available on land parcels in Townsville), enabling us to provide accurate property searches, and maps. Aerial photography of Townsville and Magnetic Island is regularly updated and available for purchase.
