Getting Around Townsville

Getting AroundTownsville residents have a range of transport options, including an increasing network of bike and walking paths, buses and taxis. Ferries run regularly throughout the day between Townsville and Magnetic Island.

Concessions and discounts

Students and pensioners are offered concessional fares on most local public transport. Townsville City Council operates the Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme (PTSS), which provides a subsidy to residents of the Townsville local government area who receive a Commonwealth pension (either through Centrelink or Veterans Affairs). PTSS cardholders are eligible for a discount on local bus fares. This is in addition to the pensioner discount offered by the State Government.

In addition to receiving the same discount on Magnetic island bus travel, all PTSS cardholders who live on the island are also eligible to receive ferry discount vouchers.

For more information on local transport and support for people with a disability, contact the Community Information Centre.
