Regional Arts Development Fund Committee

Queensland Government - Arts Queensland

Guidelines for potential Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Committee Members

What is the Regional Arts Development Fund

The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a Queensland Government (Arts Queensland) and local government partnership to support arts and cultural activities across the state.

Each year, the Townsville City Council lodges a bid to Arts Queensland for an allocation of RADF funding. The allocation received is combined with Councils own contribution plus any surplus funds rolled over from previous years. This gives Council its annual RADF Budget which is then made available to the community through published funding rounds.

The RADF Committee meets to consider the applications and recommend funding to Council. The Committee is provided with copies of applications to consider prior to meeting.

What is a RADF Committee?

A RADF Committee is a group of informed representatives that reflects the diverse arts, cultural and geography of the Townsville area. Each member of the Committee has a responsibility to provide advice and information in their area of expertise.

Roles and Responsibilities

Committee members will:

  • Network broadly across the arts to represent the greater community good rather than any personal or professional affiliations,
  • Provide feedback for the preparation of the RADF Grant Bid to Arts Queensland in January of each year,
  • Attend all RADF assessment meetings, induction meetings and any professional development opportunities provided specifically for the committee,
  • Attend, where possible, any opportunities provided for the community relating to the RADF program such as grant writing workshops and information sessions,
  • Participate if requested and where possible in other activities such as the annual elections, Council consultations, and any RADF funded activities such as launches, openings, performances etc,
  • Act as ambassadors for the RADF program in the wider community; this may include mentoring an application or providing other support,
  • Provide Council and/or the committee with advice and feedback about community needs and issues that may impact on RADF funding demands, and
  • Provide feedback about RADF activities and events within members’ networks and/or areas of interest.

What length term do RADF Committee Members serve?

Committee members serve for a maximum term of four (4) years, with an option to step down after two years. Committee members who have served for a continuous four-year term are required to 'rest' for a period of 12 months before being eligible for re-election.

Who can be a RADF Committee Member?

Local artists, arts and cultural workers, members of cultural groups, local organisations or associations and people active within the arts community are eligible to be a member of the Townsville RADF Committee. Council staff and the RADF Committee Chair oversee new Committee appointments.
