Cultural grants 

Grants for Excellence in Cultural Development

Grants for Excellence in Cultural Development This program is a council initiative designed to assist individual local arts and cultural workers with costs incurred when participating in cultural development activities. These activities include representing Townsville at officially recognised conferences, festivals, workshops, seminars, performances and exhibitions.

Funding Round

No set closing dates, but must apply prior to the event.

Level of Financial Assistance

  • $100 for activities within Queensland
  • $200 for interstate activities
  • $300 for overseas activities

Examples of past funding approved

  • Highland dancer performed at the Royal Music Festival and Tattoo in Oman, Middle East
  • Professional actor attended The Moving Body an intensive theatre course in Brisbane

Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF)

Regional Arts Development Fund The RADF Program supports professional artists and artsworkers to practice their art, for and with communities, resulting in mutual development of the professional artists/artsworkers and communities in regional Queensland. RADF is a Queensland Government and Townsville City Council partnership to support local arts and culture. It offers funding to individuals and community groups for one-off, short term activities and employing professional artists, and arts and cultural workers.

Funding Round

  • Closes last Friday of March and October each year.
  • March Round (for projects/activities commencing after June 1).
  • October Round (for projects/activities commencing after December 1). 

Funding Priorities for 2011 – 2014

Priority for the provision of grants awarded through the Townsville R.A.D.F. programme will be given to the funding category ‘Contemporary Collections/Stories’, and to the artform categories Festivals, Music and Writing.

Level of Financial Assistance

Varies - up to $5,000

Note: Applicants featured in more than one application will be financed for one project only.

Quick Response Funding

Please note that the Townsville City Council does not provide Quick Response Funding through the Regional Arts Development Fund. Council's Community Micro Grants and Grants for Excellence in Cultural Development may be of assistance for some projects.

Further application information

Only current RADF application forms and outcome report forms will be accepted. Be sure to use only these forms as there may be others in circulation that might be out of date.

When submitting budget information for either an application or outcome report, use only the budget page contained in the RADF forms – do not devise your own.

Provide answers to the questions on the pages of the application or outcome report forms.

It is important to note that if awarded a grant through the RADF program, copies of all receipts must be included with the submission of the outcome report.

Applicants are advised to read the RADF Guidelines and any revisions to the Guidelines before submitting an application. Revisions to the Guidelines and up-to-date information may be accessed at Arts Queensland. The Townsville RADF Committee encourages prospective applicants to discuss ideas about their applications with council's RADF Liaison Officer.

Applicants may be contacted during a committee assessment meeting to query aspects of their application. For this reason, please include a mobile phone number or suitable telephone number on your application form so that the committee may contact you.

Regional Partnerships

For applicants proposing activities, projects or programmes, such as workshops and tours, that will operate in and beyond the Townsville local government area, support from neighbouring regional councils can be sought. Such applications should be submitted under the category ‘Regional Partnerships’ to each council relevant to your proposal.

Specific closing dates for R.A.D.F. programmes in the northern council cluster vary. Applicants should refer to the council websites below, and speak to the relevant R.A.D.F. liaison officer for advice.
