Health Programs aims to promote and create supportive environments for physical activity and nutrition across Townsville. Through implementation of Townsville City Council's Eat Well, Be Active Program, a number of low cost and/or no cost physical activity initiatives have been successfully implemented, all providing a supportive environment for children and families.
Physical Activity Flip Chart
The Physical Activity Flip Chart was developed under council's Eat Well, Be Active Project, funded by Health Promotion Queensland. The Flip Chart highlights Townsville's free and low cost physical activity opportunities. Whether in a park, at the pool or in your own back yard, the flip chart aims to encourage children and families to be more physically active.

The Eat Well, Be Active Project promotes the National Physical Activity Guidelines for Adults and Australia's Physical Activity Recommendations for Children. Adults should put together at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most, preferably all days. It is recommended that children need at least 60 minutes (and up to several hours) or moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.
The National Physical Activity resources can be found at Healthy Active website.

Hopscotch
Hopscotch was an initiative under the Eat Well, Be Active project that aimed to provide a safe and enjoyable physical activity for young families that also educated children in nutrition while utilising Townsville's open spaces.
Five parks were chosen to have the hopscotch stencils laid. These parks were Kalynda Parade, Charles Moroney Park, Cambridge Park, Victoria Park and Aplin's Weir Rotary Park.
Beach Volleyball Courts
The Strand is one of Townsville's most attractive open spaces that are utilised by large numbers of the community. As part of the Eat Well, Be Active Program, two beach volleyball courts were installed on the Strand as another no cost initiative for young families.
