Grants and funding

Townsville City Council aims to support local initiatives and pursuits of excellence that enhance community well-being and opportunity via the provision of financial assistance to community organisations and individuals.

Grant information and downloadable Guidelines and Application forms are listed below, or for detailed description of all grants available, and general grants and funding information, download the Community Grants Handbook PDF Document (1.73MB).

Currently, the closing dates on the Grant Application Forms are being updated. In the interim, these forms on the website can still be used.

Thuringowa residents are eligible to apply for community grants.

Cultural Grants

  • Grants for Excellence in Cultural Development is a Council initiative designed to assist local arts and cultural workers and organisations with costs incurred when participating in cultural development activities. These activities include representing Townsville at officially recognised conferences, festivals, workshops, seminars, performances and exhibitions.

  • Partnerships and Sponsorship in Cultural Development aims to assist Townsville organisations to provide cultural development activities in Townsville by funding capital costs, events, programs or operational expenses.

  • Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is run in partnership with Arts Queensland and is designed to promote local arts and cultural activity by providing funding for artistic projects, concept development, individual professional development and skills development. Grants are recommended to Council for funding twice yearly by a locally elected panel of community members.

    RADF Resource Kits are available from the Arts Queensland website, including an online form you can complete and lodge electronically.

Sport and Recreation Grants

  • Grants for Excellence in Sport is a Council initiative designed to assist Townsville sports people to achieve excellence in the their chosen sports by providing financial assistance to attend National and International competitions.

  • Partnerships and Sponsorship in Sport and Recreation aims to assist Townsville organisations to provide sport and recreation development activities by funding capital costs, events, programs or operational expenses.

  • Sport and Recreation Facility Assistance Program is a Council initiative designed to assist Townsville sporting organisations in the provision of recreation opportunities for the community by funding the development of sport & recreation facilities.

Community Grants

  • Community Organisations Grants Program offers one-off grants of up to $5000 available to cover costs involved in providing facilities/equipment, social services, or community development activities and programs. Please note that sports and arts organisations can apply under this program for activities that encourage participation by disadvantaged groups.

  • Partnerships and Sponsorship in Community Initiatives includes recurrent and one-off grants of varying amounts, for the provision of community development activities in Townsville (i.e. capital costs, events, programs or operational expenses).

Youth Grants

  • Youth Opportunity Fund: IPA Aspire Youth Career Grant has grants of up to $2000 available. Aspire Youth Career Grants provide assistance to young people of Townsville (aged 15 - 23 years) to achieve their dream careers by providing funding to assist in training, further education and career related experiences. This grant represents a unique model of partnership between Council, a corporate body (IPA Personnel) and young local people.

  • Philip Leong Youth Programme - Youth In Business Bursary was designed by the Community Enterprise Foundation in partnership with the Philip Leong Youth Programme Advisory Committee to give young business people a chance to achieve their best. Preference is given to applicants aged 15-26 years of age, who reside within the cities of Townsville and Thuringowa and who have demonstrated potential excellence, talent, skill or achievement in business.

  • Theodore Kucher Scholarship has been developed to support young emerging Townsville orchestral musicians with the costs of tuition and professional development. The Townsville City Council in partnership with The Australian Festival of Chamber Music is offering a year Eleven student $4000, over two years, to be used to pay for instrumental tuition and/or professional development. The scholarship will be $2000 per year for two years, paid during years Eleven and Twelve.
