Advisory Committees
The Townsville City Council Seniors Council was formed in 2004 to enhance the involvement of seniors in council decision making and to facilitate the flow of information between seniors, council and other community organisations. The Seniors Council also oversees projects that are determined on an annual basis.
Publications

The Seniors Strategic Action Plan 2011 - 2014 is to provide an overarching framework to guide a coordinated approach to meeting the challenges of an ageing population.
Programs
The Home Services program provides information, advice and subsidised financial assistance (when eligible) with home maintenance, modifications and repairs to the home - to keep them in a safe, healthy and secure condition. The Home Services program provides assistance across Townsville with some of the practical housing related difficulties, experienced by frail elderly people and people with disabilities (and their carers) who wish to remain living in their home. The service also provides assistance with major modifications throughout Townsville, Bowen, Charters Towers and Mt Isa.
OTHER COUNCIL PROGRAMS
Townsville City Council offers eight weeks of fun, friendly and low cost physical activity and recreation for the over 50s. This series aims to facilitate and encourage active and healthy lifestyles, and all classes are lead by qualified instructors.
Each year in August, Townsville City Council provides two major events as part of Townsville's Seniors Week. One is the Music Day on Magnetic Island, and the other is the Seniors Picnic and Lifestyle Expo. These annual community events serve to acknowledge and thank local seniors for their contributions to the community.
The Townsville City Council Senior Awards have been designed to provide public thanks to those quiet achieving seniors who give so much to our city.
The Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme (PTSS) encourages people who receive a pension to participate in community activities and to assist their access and mobility through the provision of a subsidy towards the costs of public transport.
