The Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme (PTSS) encourages people who receive a pension to participate in community activities and to assist their access and mobility through the provision of a subsidy towards the costs of public transport.
The subsidy is provided to residents of the Townsville local government area who receive a Commonwealth pension (either through Centrelink or Veterans Affairs).
The recipients of the PTSS Card are eligible for a 30% discount on local bus fares. This is in addition to their 50% pensioner discount, bringing the total discount to 80%. Both the Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme Card and the Pension Card must be shown to the driver for the discount to be given.
In addition to receiving the same discount on Magnetic Island bus travel, all eligible recipients who permanently reside on Magnetic Island are also eligible to receive 20 ferry vouchers per annum. Each ferry voucher entitles pensioners to a $3.00 discount. When purchasing ferry tickets both the voucher and Pension Card must be presented. Voucher holders may use more than one voucher per ticket purchase.
Eligible residents can apply for Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme Cards and Ferry Vouchers from the Community Services Department of the Council located on Level 1 Northtown, Flinders Mall, Townsville, from the Customer Service Centres on Walker St or Thuringowa Drive.
