Standing Committees

Standing Committees were established to enable complex issues or strategic issues to be discussed at length without the time constraints normally imposed at an Ordinary Meeting of Council. They allow Councillors to specialise in particular functions of Council and can utilise the particular knowledge and skills a Councillor may bring to Council.

Committees conduct much of the investigative and detailed work leading towards a recommendation to Council to enable an informed decision to be made.

In accordance with S443 of the Local Government Act 1993, and pursuant to S452 of the Local Government Act 1993, Council adopted the following Standing Committees on Tuesday 8 April 2008.

Membership to each committee consists of six (6) councillors. The Mayor will act as an ex-officio member on each of the committees.

Meetings of the Standing Committees of the Council will be held in the two weeks preceding the Monthly Ordinary Meeting.

These meetings will be held in the the Council Chambers, 103 Walker St, Townsville and are open to the public.

Please note that the public will be excluded from meetings during deliberation of confidential items in the "Closed" section of the Agenda.
