Second half of Vic St Bridge lifted into place
Date: Tuesday, 11th August 2009
There’s plenty of heavy lifting going on with the new Victoria Street bridge project today.
Contractors Davbridge Constructions brought in a 80 tonne crane this morning to lift 12 concrete girders into place to complete the second half of the supporting structure for the new bridge.
The major lifting exercise signals the final phase of the $2.4 million project to replace the old narrower bridge with a new wider structure.
Once the girders are in place, work will be completed on safety rails, footpaths and kerbing and the laying of asphalt on the roadway.
Rock stabilisation work is also being carried out in the cutting below the bridge.
The bridge has been constructed in stages to provide local residents with traffic access across the cutting throughout the project.
Demolition of the old bridge and the removal of debris has been completed. |
