Council calls for EOIs for mall redevelopment

The Townsville City Council will call for expressions of interest from constructions firms for the crucial mall stage of the Flinders St redevelopment.

Council today voted to undertake the EOI exercise to streamline and save time with the tendering process.

Calling for EOIs will enable the council to call tenders from a short list of companies as soon as detailed designs are finalised.

Early works on the overall $56.6 million redevelopment is scheduled to kick off in Flinders St East in late November with the reconstruction of the mall stage expected to begin in March.

The redevelopment will create a dynamic new look for Flinders Street with wide footpaths and tree-lined streetscape, a large public plaza area, two-way slow moving traffic and improved public transport facilities.
