Stanley Street cutting reopened to traffic
Date: Friday, 18th September 2009
The Stanley Street cutting in Townsville’s CBD will reopen to traffic at the weekend after a project to build a new bridge in Victoria Street.
The major component of the construction work has been completed by contractors Davbridge Constructions, enabling the cutting to reopen.
Infrastructure Committee chairman Cr Brian Hewett thanked motorists and local residents for their patience while the work was being carried out.
The new Victoria Street Bridge spans 20 metres and includes relocation of underground water, telephone and electricity services.
The previous structure was demolished in July. At approximately 80 years old, the bridge was one the city’s oldest bridges. |
