Celebrate National Water Week by becoming a volunteer
Date: Thursday, 8th October 2009
This year’s National Water Week will feature a range of events that demonstrate the fun and importance of environmental volunteering.
From 18-24 October, residents will be able to join a cruise on the Ross Lake, identify which fish benefit our waterways, and go bird watching at the Town Common. The events will be hosted by Conservation Volunteers Australia.
CVA’s community engagement and education officer, Carolyn Luder, said this year’s theme, Securing Our Water Future, aimed to get locals involved in protecting and restoring water sources.
“In most parts of Australia, supplies of water are limited – it’s our most precious resource – so we’re all responsible for our water future,” Ms Luder said.
“With this in mind, we were keen to organise a week of events that focus on the importance of keeping local waterways clean and healthy, but also showing how local residents can help. There’ll be something for everyone: community, schools, environmental groups and industry.
“We hope to attract new volunteers who are interested in helping protect their local environment through practical activities that really do make a difference.”
CVA is always looking for more adults who would like to become volunteers. Anyone interested in CVA can contact Wendy Willcox at Conservation Volunteers Australia on 4721 4077 or email mbrady@cva.org.au. |
