What is the Mount Low Parkway Improvement project?

The $11.5m Mount Low Parkway Improvement project involved improving 4.2km of the existing road between the Bruce Highway and Lionel Turner Drive, including the addition of sealed shoulders.

What is the latest news?

The project is almost complete with some works remaining to be carried out including:

• Installing street lighting on the hill section of the road by Ergon Energy, expected to occur in the near future.
• Completing the Post Construction Road Safety Audit

Why does the Mount Low Parkway need improving?

These works were undertaken to improve the overall road condition, the safety for all road users, enable traffic to flow more freely and improve access to properties adjacent to the road.

Who was involved with the project?

The project was managed and fully funded by Townsville City Council.

Council appointed AECOM as the design consultant and BMD Constructions as the construction contractor.

What is the status of the project?

It is anticipated all works on the improvement project will be completed June 2012.
