Artist Statement:
Animism: the belief that all things have a soul and have the capacity to be intermediaries or messengers between the human world and the spirit world.
In ancient times animals and nature have been considered sacred and mystical by many cultures, possessing great power to effect change not only in the environment but also in the self. As a result animals have appeared in all areas of art as an allegorical symbol, a guide and as heralds of mystical power.
Animystic explores the deeper meanings and hidden wisdom of the natural world through the knowledge, cultures and biodiversity of the current natural world. Each image draws on shamanic beliefs, symbolism and mysticism of nature to convey messages of natural wisdom. This encourages a connection beyond the mundane to explore the multifaceted qualities of nature outside the confines of the human perception.
