3 February until 8 April
Go Figure! is the 2012 Xstrata Kids and Teens exhibition. The exhibition centres on ten life-size sculptures, collectively entitled The Syndicate, by Simon Gilby. Gilby describes his figures as portraits “of real or imagined characters”. In the catalogue essay, Ted Snell writes “…in that strange amalgam we discover the core of their power. They are us, they reflect back our fears and doubts and in this exchange we become more human, more empathetic, more alive.”
Kids & teens visiting the exhibition will explore the topics of self identity, character traits, and the human body in visual art. The exhibition is complemented by artworks from local and national artists, including Sally Smart and Zygmunt Libucha, a range of interactive activities, and an activity booklet to encourage children to exercise their imaginations based on the Education Queensland visual arts curriculum.
School tours (bookings essential) enable children to learn more about the artwork and themselves.
