Artists from throughout Australia are invited to submit an entry to the XSTRATA PERCIVAL PORTRAIT AWARD. Entries will be exhibited at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, Townsville’s Regional Gallery, from 4 May to 1 July 2012.
Artists may enter ONE artwork only.
The portrait is to be of a ‘REAL’ PERSON. It is expected that the subject of the work has SAT FOR THE ARTIST at least once. The subject of your portrait may be someone who has captured your interest or someone who inspires you.
Your entry must demonstrate some link to Townsville. The link can be the subject, the artist or the artist’s history, etc, and can be direct or tenuous. This is a way of capturing history and building a collection that directly references Townsville’s stories and geographical location.
ACCEPTED MEDIA include: oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastels, charcoal, ink and/or mixed media.
Sculpture, digital media, photography and textiles are not eligible.
The acquisitive prize is $40,000.
BARRY PEARCE is the judge. Pearce was formerly the head of Australian Art and is currently (inaugural) Emeritus Curator at the Art Gallery of NSW.

To enter the exhibition, all artists must complete an entry form and return it to the Gallery by 5pm Friday 30 March 2012.
N.B. The finished artwork is not due at the Gallery until 1 May 2012.

INTERNATIONAL ART SERVICES (IAS)
As a special negotiated arrangement, IAS has agreed to provide discounted freight to artists who deliver their portraits to an IAS capital city depot. The artist needs to book with the appropriate IAS state depot and deliver their work to them by the following dates:

Artists with works delivered by IAS will be notified about the return of their portraits to the same depot they were delivered. Works not collected within 14 days, unless the artist has contacted IAS to make alternative arrangements, may be subject to a $5 per day surcharge. During the exhibition, you will have your opportunity to vote for your favourite portrait. Voting closes 2pm Sunday 1 July 2012. The most popular portrait, as judged by the exhibition visitors, will receive the Ergon Energy People’s Choice Award of $2,000.
