Lomography is a film based experimental photography practice. The Lomo camera was originally designed to be a spy camera during the cold war. The camera failed to meet the requirements and was forgotten, until…
A new generation of Lomography was born when two Austrian art students found a second hand Lomo in a junk shop in 1991. They found the camera captured moody shots with obscure lighting effects and vibrant colour. They used the camera spy-style, shooting from all angles and rebelling against the logic of composition.
Lomography is spontaneous in nature and produces strangely beautiful, radical results. There are 10 simple rules and endless possibilities!
- Take your LOMO with you wherever you go
- Use it all the time, at any time - day or night
- Lomography does not interfere with your life, it's a part of it
- Get as close as possible to the objects of your lomographic desire
- Don't think (William Firebrace)
- Be fast
- You don't have to know what's going to be captured on your film
- You don't have to know what's on the film afterwards either
- Shoot from the hip
- Don't worry about rules
