Public programs and education 

Workshops and artist talks are a great way to get involved in Townsville's diverse art community. Get your hands dirty, create master pieces and meet new friends! Our workshops are run by talented and professional artists for a range of age groups and experience levels. If you are interested in a particular workshop - let us know!

Pinnacles Gallery invites school groups and community groups to get involved in free educational programs and guided tours. The Gallery is constantly developing educational materials and hosting activities to engage, inspire and challenge participants. We can tailor a program to suit most interests.



CREATE PHOTOGRAMS - KIDS WORKSHOP

A Photogram is created using darkroom techniques and equipment. The result is a negative image like an X-ray. You can experiment with different objects and placement to create your work of art.

Date: Saturday 26 May
Cost: $20 ($15 Kids Club Members)
Time: 11am to 1pm
Age: 9 - 13 yrs

MAKE YOUR OWN PUPPETS

Come and learn how to make your own puppets, then create a story using a puppet stage.

Date: Saturday 2 June
Cost: $15 ($10 Kids Club Members)
Time: 11am to 1pm
Age: 5 - 8 yrs

EXPERTS IN THE FIELD SESSIONS

Ever wondered how to capture that postcard photo? What is the average work day for an underwater photographer? How do you capture that perfect shot of an active toddler?

Throughout 2012, Pinnacles Gallery will be inviting experts in different fields of photography to share their knowledge and show a portfolio of their work. Come along to get inspired, learn industry secrets and have a cuppa with fellow photography enthusiasts.

INTRODUCTION TO FLICKR - ONLINE PHOTO SHARING WITH ABC OPEN

Michael Bromage from the ABC OPEN project presents a talk and workshop on how to use online photo sharing applications such as Flickr. No previous experience is necessary.

Learn how to create and edit digital video, add sound tracks and produce stop motion clips.
3 week course on Thursday nights 6pm to 9pm

ARTIST BLOGS AND ONLINE PROFILES WITH ABC OPEN

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

Wednesday nights 6pm to 9pm over 3 weeks - Next round July 11, 18 and 25.
The workshops will cover functions of the camera, exposure and a range of techniques to capture a digital image. It is recommended that participants bring their own digital camera. The course is particularly designed for those that have their own digital SLR camera and a keen desire to learn how to use the manual functions. We will touch base on the best approach to a range of styles, including portraits, landscapes, travel and documenting art works, etc.

Cost: $75 ($60 student/concession ID required)
Age: 15+
Requirements: Own camera (preferably SLR)

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Free guided tours for schools and community groups

Pinnacles Gallery invites groups to participate in a free tour of the current exhibition. School groups and community groups are welcome to explore the gallery at their own leisure and undertake teacher directed activities. Education packs are available at the gallery. If you would like to visit Pinnacles Gallery please contact us to arrange a suitable time. We are always flexible and can tailor the visit to suit your schedule and curriculum.
