Free Family Day at the Gallery on Saturday

On Saturday 17 January 2009 Perc Tucker Regional Gallery will host a free day of activities simultaneously with Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) as part of the Kids: Contemporary Australia Summer Festival.

Kids: Contemporary Australia on Tour is a Summer Festival event presented in conjunction with the major Contemporary Australia: Optimism exhibition, at GoMA until 22 February 2009.

The activities at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery will be drawn from the Summer Festival and Kids’ Contemporary Australia program at GoMA’s Children’s Art Centre during the exhibition.

Kids: Contemporary Australia on Tour features interactive activities for children and families created by a number of artists in the exhibition, including Gemma Smith, Kathy Temin and Robert MacPherson. The projects encourage children to explore and discover the fresh and imaginative ways that Australian artists consider their world.

Contemporary Australia: Optimism is the first of the Gallery’s ambitious new national series of triennial contemporary Australian art exhibitions. On display from 15 November until 22 February, Optimism presents more than 250 works by 67 artists from every state and territory, with many art works specially commissioned for the exhibition. The exhibition features contemporary art by emerging, mid-career and senior Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists ranging in age from their mid-20s to their mid-80s.
