Volunteering in the arts information evening

Perc Tucker Regional Gallery is holding an information evening for volunteers at 5.30 pm on Monday 2 March 2009. Volunteers are a valued and vital part of the Gallery team. Gallery volunteers vary in age and backgrounds but share a common enjoyment of the arts.

The Gallery`s volunteer program enables people to become involved `behind the scenes` at the Gallery. There is the scope for interested volunteers to participate in a variety of ways including assisting with administrative duties during the week or weekends, or they can elect to assist with guided tours, workshops, installation and demounting of exhibitions. No experience is necessary as training will be provided. An interest in visual arts would be welcomed.

“This is a great opportunity to become involved with Townsville`s regional gallery, meet new people and share existing skills as well as develop new skills in an area of interest”, said Frances Thomson, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery Director.

Volunteers are specifically required for the upcoming Strand Ephemera - a trail of sculptures created by artists from across Australia transforming Townsville`s Strand into an outdoor Gallery. The eleven day exhibition, scheduled from 4 to 14 September, is complemented by a developed public program including artist lectures, workshops and a public art forum. A preview to the exhibition will be provided on the night.

People interested in being a part of the Gallery`s volunteer program can come along to a social evening for volunteers at the Gallery at 5.30 pm on Monday 2 March. This will provide an opportunity to meet other volunteers, and the Gallery team who will briefly discuss their different areas of work and how volunteers can fit in.
