Access Information Centre
CityLibraries Aitkenvale houses the Access Information Centre.
The primary aim of the Access Information Centre is to ensure equity of access to library services for residents with special needs.
The centre has a number of items to assist residents with accessing the internet and other educational and recreational resources.
The facility is available free to any person with special needs:
- People who are illiterate or illiterate in English
- People who are physically unable to manage printed material
- People recovering from stroke or a serious illness who are temporarily unable to access printed material due to memory or concentration problems.
Facilities
- Height adjustable desk
- Chair with adjustable arm and back support
- Intellikeys Keyboard - an expanded keyboard for people with limited hand and arm movement
- Braille keyboard
- Trackball mouse
- Large screen monitor
- Zoom text software to provide screen magnification and screen reading, allowing you to see and hear everything on the computer screen
- Poet Reader which converts printed text such as books, newspapers or personal mail to a computer generated voice.
- Audio-Read Navigator handsets - a small hand held playback device onto which books and magazines can be downloaded. The Navigators are available for loan.
- Large print books, DVDs with captions, CDs, Hear-a-Book (books on cassette or CD).
The library has staff to assist in the use of these facilities.
