Living History Unit

The CityLibraries Flinders Street houses the Living History Unit which features interactive technology to present information on Townsville’s history, people, and way of life.
Access the touch screen units to listen to some amusing and remarkable local history yarns. You can scroll through our extensive collection of historical photographs. Or perhaps you would like to watch our movie, Townsville in the Galaxy.
The wall panels provide information on Townville’s development from a small port settlement to the thriving regional city it is today.
The Living History Unit shows the role Townsville has played in shaping the State and the nation’s history in the areas of primary industries and ethnically diverse workforces and the critical part the city has played in Australia’s defence.
This exhibit is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth, State, and Local Government and was funded through the Heritage Trails Network.
