Emergency Alert Service
Townsville City Council utilises the Queensland Government’s “Emergency Alert Service”. The “Emergency Alert Service” is the national telephone based emergency warning system that sends messages via landlines (based on the location of the handset) and mobile phones (based on the location of the mobile phone for Telstra clients and the mobile billing address for Optus and Vodafone customers).
The "Emergency Alert" system provides emergency service organisations and council's Local Disaster Management Group with another way to warn communities in the event of an emergency such as bushfire and extreme weather events. For more information, please visit the Queensland Government "Emergency Alert Service" website.
Early Warning Network (EWN)
Council no longer uses the Early Warning Network (EWN) to receive Alert Updates for weather events. If you wish to receive these alerts by SMS, please contact the EWN directly on:
Phone - 1300 703 017 / 02 6674 2711
Website - www.ewn.com.au/support
Email - support@ewn.com.au.
It is important that communities do not rely on receiving an emergency warning message. Individuals and communities must still prepare themselves in case of an emergency. Please check other areas of this website for further information on preparing for extreme weather events.
