Riverway Skate Park
Getting back to you
In mid 2008, council commenced the consultation process for the Riverway Skate Park, to get feedback on what the youth of Townsville want to see in the new skate park.
Ideas for the park included a quarter pipe, steps, fun box, rails, ledges, bowl, ramps, shade, bubblers, seating and bins.
Contractors Sk8 Scapes and Hutchinson Builders were appointed for the detailed design and construction of the skate park.
An initial concept plan was released in September 2008. The new concept design incorporates advice from the experienced skate park designers, Sk8 Scapes.
The new concept looks different to the original, but includes almost all of the ideas from the consultation. The park now has better flow for skaters and sand bike riders, enables skaters and riders to get more speed, and is a better use of skate elements as a whole.
Unfortunately a bowl could not be included due to drainage issues on the site.
Construction for the new skate park will commence in late May 2009.
Here is what we have done with your ideas for the new Riverway Skate Park.

This project is a partnership project with the Department of Housing Community Renewal, Department of Communities Sport and Recreation Services and Townsville City Council.
Where is the Skatepark?
The new Riverway Skate Park is going to be located in a section of the car park opposite the cricket practice nets at Tony Ireland Stadium.
Community consultations were held in early August at the new Riverway Skate Park location and now Council is wanting to move to the next stage of the project - detailed design.
