Active and Healthy Seniors

Townsville City Council is pleased to present the next instalment of the Active and Healthy Seniors Program.

The Active and Healthy Seniors Program offers eight weeks of fun, friendly and low cost physical activity and recreation classes to promote and encourage active and healthy lifestyles for the over 50's of Townsville.

Join in as many low cost and fun activities as you like and become an Active and Healthy Senior. Pay for the full cost of the activity upfront for attendance to each eight week activity course.

Program commences week beginning Monday 14 September 2009 and concludes the week ending Friday 6 November 2009.

Barra Fishing and Golf Driving

Barra Fishing and Golf Driving Come and experience a catch of a lifetime then try your luck at the golf driving range. An instructor will be available to assist you with your fishing and golf activity. You have an option of catch and release or purchase your fish and take it home with you. This is a fun way of meeting new people as well as being encouraged to take on a new recreational hobby.

Yoga

Yoga A gentle stretch program incorporating: breathing exercises, Pilates based abdominals and relaxation. Increased flexibility, stronger back and a calm state of mind are a direct result of this low impact, rejuvenating program.

Walking For Fun

Ten Pin Bowling Each week you will be guided around the tropical pathways of the Palmetum Gardens whilst enjoying good company and receiving expert fitness advice and motivational tips from a qualified instructor.

Seniors Crossfit

Aqua Aerobics Functional body movements necessary for independent living. You will begin using light weights, teaching you proper techniques to build muscle, bone density, strength and range of motion, sufficient to allow for greater independence.

Aqua Aerobics

Fit and Flex Low-impact form of aerobics that allows you to keep cool by being in a pool! Aqua aerobics is particularly beneficial to people with joint problems or those recovering from injury.

Swimming

 Swimming This is a sport for all age groups, skill and fitness levels. It is a great recreational activity which provides you with a low-impact workout which is easy on the joints. It is also a good way to relax and feel good.

Fit and Flex

Fit and Flex

A fun variety of cardiovascular and muscular exercises for improved heart/lung efficiency and increased muscular endurance. Finish with relaxing stretches to improve flexibility of the joints and muscles. If you can walk a flight of stairs then you will be able to do this class.

Belly Dance

 Belly Dance

This is a fantastic dance form which will give you greater flexibility, core strength and strength improvement. It is also great for stress relief with all round fun and fitness. The classes will look at basic beginner moves and small step combinations.

  • Pay the full cost of your chosen classes by 11 September and get a 50% discount!
  • Cash or Cheque Only

Cost of each activity for eight weeks
Option 1(Early Bird): $20 if payment made before Friday 11 September 2009 at reception of Community Planning and Services, Level 1, 280 Northtown, Flinders Mall.
Option 2: $30 if payment made at the first session of your chosen activity.
Option 3: $40 if payment is made any later then the first session.

Safe and Healthy Seminar/Expo For Seniors

Free Expo 10 November 2009!

Come along to this free event to learn about safe and healthy living in a relaxed and fun environment. Listen to a variety of guest presenters, talk to health professionals and take home valuable information and ideas. Morning tea is provided plus lucky door prizes.
