Sport and Recreation
Vision Statement
To increase participation and enhance opportunities in sport & recreation for the Townsville community.
Mission Statement
We will meet the sport and recreation needs of the Townsville community by building the capacity of local sport and recreation organisations through planning and provision of programs and facilities.
The role of the Sport and Recreation area is to identify our community's sport and recreation needs and provide strategies though the provision of facilities, activities and programs to meet these needs.
The sport and recreation team supports local sport and recreation clubs and provides information to the community about sport and recreation opportunities. This is achieved through:
Townsville City Council coordinates programs from October 2008 to June 2009 offering a safe and supportive environment for young people to develop new skills and engage with their community.
Townsville City Council offers a fun, friendly and low cost physical activity and recreation for the over 50s.
This is an annual event that serves to recognise Townsville residents who have represented Queensland or Australia in sport, including volunteers and teams.
Townsville City Council provides free workshops for non-profit organisations to improve the skills of their volunteers.
The Sport and Recreation team have developed a number of strategies for future development of open space, programs and sport and recreation facilities across the city.
Provides Grants to the community including grants through the Sport and Recreation Facility Assistance Program, Partnerships and Sponsorships in Sport and Recreation and Grants for Excellence in Sport Program.
Townsville City Council has taken a lead role in developing and implementing strategies to ensure community infrastructure is keeping pace with our community needs.
