CBD Car Parking
As you would have noticed, changes are occurring in Townsville's CBD. A large number of developments are taking place, creating a vibrant inner city for living, working and leisure.
However, this often means facilities like carparking seemingly disappear overnight.
We want to keep residents, visitors, workers and shoppers informed about how to find carparks in the revitalised city.
This page outlines a variety of carparking options available in Townsville's CBD.
Public Transport
You may also want to consider using alternative public transport including pedestrian and cycling paths, buses and taxis.
What is Council doing to improve CBD Parking
It is important that residents, visitors, workers, shoppers and those conducting business in our city are very well catered for with both affordable short- and long-term parking.
A number of Council initiatives have increased the viability of affordable on and off-street parking in the CBD. There are now seven Council and nine private carparks, as well as on-street parking in the CBD.
Council is catering for parking in the centre of city streets, reducing metered on-street parking and encouraging private carparks. Council has also recently introduced eight hour parking bays behind the Council Chambers in Wills Street and Stanley Street.
Although some carparks will be removed with the commencement of new development, car spaces will be included in these developments upon their completion. During the interim period, Council will endeavour to provide additional short-term carparking spaces wherever possible.
Free short-term parking
Over the last year Council has removed over 300 parking meters. A number of metered short-term (two hour) on-street parking spaces are also available.
Private carparks
Private carparks in the CBD also provide short and long-term parking. Council is pursuing long-term carparking solutions and forming partnerships with the private sector to deliver these initiatives.

Signage
Council has introduced a new signage system to help make it easier for you to locate inner city parking. Essentially, you need to decide if you are looking for short or long term parking when you enter the CBD.
