Building Plans and Searches

If you are searching for building plans of your Townsville home, it is possible the Townsville City Council may hold copies.

Copies of Existing Building Plans

Council holds copies of approved building plans for most applications on site for a period of ten years. Following that period, files are archived and stored off-site. There are some instances where building plans cannot be obtained for a property, and therefore Council cannot guarantee building plans will be available. There is a fee involved in the retrieval and supply of building plans and you may be required to provide identification.

Most building plans can be retrieved within 48 hours of the request. Please use the Document Search Request Form PDF document' (31KB) when submitting your request. If you have any concerns you can contact Planning Services on (07) 4727 9000.

Property Searches

You can use the Council to search building files of a property you own or are looking to purchase. This can be done in two ways. You may choose to inspect the file yourself and make copies of the information you require or you can request a Council Officer search and retrieve the documentation for you. There is a fee associated with the service regardless of whether you or the Council Officer carries out the request and you may be required to provide identification.

For more information on the service, contact Planning Services on telephone (07) 4727 9000.
