Plumbing and Drainage Applications
Definitions
Plumbing Work is the installation, repair, alteration or removal of any system, components of a system for:
- Supplying water within premises from the point of connection to a property service; or
- Conveying sewerage from premises to a sanitary drain; or
- A fire service within premises.
Drainage Work is the installation, repair, alteration or removal of:
- A sanitary drain used, or intended to be used, to carry sewerage from sanitary plumbing to a sewer, or on-site sewerage system; or
- A property sewer; or
- An on-site sewerage system, including a common effluent drain, located on premises; or
- A stormwater installation on premises
How Do I Make An Application?
Application forms are available from the Planning Services Department, located on the Second Floor of the Administration Building in Walker Street.
The application form must be completed fully and accompanied by the following information:
- Forms 1, 2 and 7 as required under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002
- Four (4) copies of a Drainage Plan
- One (1) copy of the Building Plan
The application must contain owners' details.
The application must be signed by the applicant/s or, in the case of a partnership, by one of the partners or, in the case of a body corporate, by an authorised officer.
Forms must be completed and lodged with Council by the responsible person before regulated work is commenced.
Drainage Plans
Under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002 the plan for work shall:
Sewered Area
- Show the following information and particulars
- Floor Layout, Elevations and Site Plan
- Location of existing building and structures
- Site Plan (must show the building, drain and sewer locations)
- Existing connection to sewer, including dimensions and depth
- Position of sewer
- Existing drains (shown as a broken line eg. ---------- )
- New drains (shown as a continuous line eg. _______ )
- Full Property Description
- Detail Plan - Scale: 1:100
- Site Plan - Scale: 1:200 or 1:500
Unsewered Area
- Show the following information and particulars
- Floor Layout, Elevations and Site Plan
- Location of existing building and structures
- Site Plan (must show the building, drain and sewer locations)
- Site Plan is to show the fall of the land
- Existing drains (shown as a broken line eg. ---------- )
- New drains (shown as a continuous line eg. _______ )
- Name and Licence Number of Designer
- Certification Certificate by a qualified person
- Full Property Description
- Documentation supporting findings as to the arrival of the design criteria in accordance with AQS / NZS 1547 and the On-Site Treatment Code
- Detail Plan - Scale: 1:100
- Site Plan - Scale: 1:200 or 1:500
Most new subdivisions and estates already have sewerage and water connections, however, a single vacant block of land may not. If you require a new sewerage or water connection, the Townsville City Council can assist in design. For more information contact the Plumbing Inspector on 4727 9000.
