Former City of Thuringowa Planning Scheme

Town Planning Scheme

The former Thuringowa City Council was the first city in North Queensland and only the 12th local government authority in Queensland to adopt an IPA compliant town planning scheme in 2003. The Planning Scheme was awarded the prestigious Planning Institute of Australia National Award for Excellence in 2004.

The document provides a blueprint of important information including areas which should be retained for parkland or natural habitat, where shops, services and offices are to be located and what the local environment will look like.

The Scheme includes a strong focus on finding the balance between the Council's economic, social and environmental initiatives.
