Sustainable Village @ Kelso

The second stage of the Sustainable Village Project will involve a tender to award the rights to design and construct the Sustainable Village @ Kelso. The precinct will be a tangible demonstration of the concepts, approaches, and recommendations from the first stage of the project as documented in the Breakthrough Ideas for Sustainable Urban Development in North Queensland.

The model for the development of the site, is that aside from the gift of the intellectual property obtained from the focus group participants, that the development of the site be undertaken by the private sector, completely unsubsidised. The principle being, that if this site can demonstrate commercial viability, then that will provide further impetus for the accelerated uptake of sustainability considerations and practices by others working in the North Queensland housing and urban development industry.
