Water Charges and Pricing Plans

Water Pricing Plans

Residential customers have a choice between two water-pricing plans.

You can choose between:

For more information on

Standard Pricing Plan*

Under this plan, you pay a fixed annual charge (levied in half-yearly instalments) for the service connection and the right to use water up to a fixed consumption level (an allocation). An excess water consumption charge applies for any water used in excess of the allocation.

Water utility charges for 2009/10 are $638 per year ($319 half yearly) for your service connection and an allocation of 772 kilolitres (kL) or 772,000 litres per year. Water used in excess of the allocation will be charged at $2.12 per kL (1000 litres).

Water Watcher Pricing Plan*

Under this plan, you pay a fixed annual charge (levied in half yearly instalments) for the service connection. This charge is lower than the standard plan. ALL water used is charged per kilolitre, on a tiered pricing plan.

This plan is available as an option to all residential customers.

For all vacant residential land, water supply charges are charged under the Water Watcher Plan.

Water utility charges for 2009/10 are $331.82 per year ($165.91 half yearly) for your service connection. All water usage is charged at 69 cents per kilolitre (kL) for the first 772 kL (772,000 litres) and $2.12 per kL (1000 litres) thereafter.

For more information, please see Water Watcher Frequently Asked Questions below or contact the Customer Service Centre on 4727 9000 or send an email to Townsville Water.

* Applies to standard residential 20 mm meter connection.

Changing Plans

Customers may change water pricing plans once per year.

The changeover will take effect from the date of the next scheduled water meter reading after the completed and signed application form is received by council. Pro-rata adjustments will be made according to the number of days the property is on each plan.

If you wish to change plans, you can contact the Customer Service Centre to discuss your options, or you can complete an online application.

Once your request is received you will be sent a letter confirming your request to change plans.

Billing

Charges for connection fees will appear on your rates notice.

For Standard Plans, any excess water consumption will be billed separately at the end of the financial year.

For Water Watcher Plans, all water consumption will be billed at the end of the financial year.

New Connections

All new water meter connections will be charged under the Water Watcher Plan, unless you select the Standard Plan on the water meter application form.

Water Watcher Pricing Plan FAQs

Do I have to change over to the Water Watcher plan?

NO, it's your CHOICE. Townsville Water is giving you the option of going to Water Watcher OR staying with the Standard Plan. If you use less than 772 kL per year or believe you could use less, then Water Watcher could benefit you.

How long will it take to go onto the new plan?

Your new plan will start from the date of your NEXT Water Meter Reading. There are four readings done per year – dates vary.

Will I get a separate water bill?

YES, your water bill will be issued after your final meter reading is completed for the year and a notice will be issued. After each reading, Townsville Water will send you a letter advising you of your estimated annual consumption. This will help you to monitor your consumption.

Will there still be water restrictions?

YES, water restrictions will remain in place, regardless of which water pricing plan you are on.

Please click here for more information on our current water restrictions.

Will I save money?

If you are a careful water user, you may benefit by choosing Water Watcher. For further assistance, please contact the Customer Service Centre on 4727 9000 or send an email to Townsville Water.

What if I live in a unit that does not have its own water meter?

Some unit complexes have a single meter for the entire complex. If this is the case, one unit cannot change to Water Watcher; the entire unit complex must agree to change. For more information, please phone the Customer Service Centre on 4727 9000 or send an email to Townsville Water.
