Townsville City Council's Townsville Heritage Day is an annual event held at the West End Cemetery Park, West End. The event is held in May during the National Trust of Queensland's annual Heritage Festival.

By bringing together the key history and heritage organisations in the city, the day promotes Townsville's unique heritage and increases community awareness of local heritage groups and organisations.

Highlights of the 2009 Heritage Day

Chatting about old times

  • Face painting, jumping castle, petting farm, 'chair-o-plane' and rides in a vintage Chevy Bus
  • Live entertainment
  • Grave plots of long lost relatives in the West End Cemetery
  • Indigenous 'Welcome to Country' ceremonies, food tasting, and dancers
  • Guided walks of the historic West End Cemetery with theatre presentations
  • Information and displays by local community groups
  • Free shuttle bus service to the National Trust Centre

The community displays this year include a diverse array of items

  • Fascinating and fearsome militaria
  • Solid and stately vintage cars
  • Pristine antique motorcycles
  • Unusual antique bottles
  • Historic artefacts from Townsville's maritime past, and
  • Old carriages and livery display.
