Townsville City Council commenced improvements to Central Park in late 2019 to ensure Central Park is ready for the opening of the Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
It is envisioned Central Park will be an activated community place that is both a destination and link between the new Stadium Precinct and the city.
Short-term enhancements to the area will deliver a safe and inviting public space that attracts users year-round by providing more accessible pathways and links to the CBD. Short-term enhancements include the Dean Street shared pathway, a 3m wide pathway between Rooney Street and Morey Street and a 4m wide pathway from Rooney Street to Victoria Bridget as well as a boardwalk promenade from Victoria Bridge to the new Stadium.
The Dean Street Shared Pathway project was funded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to promote and extend the cycle network in the Townsville City Council region.
