Transport in Townsville

It is estimated that by 2036, Townsville will attract 42,500 more residents. To support Townsville’s economic growth, Council is creating the Integrated Transport Plan, a strategic framework to guide the future planning of transport.

The goal of the Integrated Transport Plan is to create safe and socially inclusive access to services, employment, education and recreational opportunities for all residents and visitors to Townsville. The plan supports effective and sustainable transport that underpins the safety, amenity and economic prosperity of the city and the wider North Queensland region.

To make sure the plan aligns with community needs, we are seeking feedback on our residents’ preferred travel methods. This will help us to identify social, economic and environmental changes across our region, and address new and emerging trends in mobility.

Transport methods that will be considered in this strategy include:

  • Public transport including bus, train and ferry services
  • Personal vehicles
  • Bike paths
  • Footpaths
  • Freight rail services
  • Personalised transport (such as taxis and Uber)

This survey will go on to inform the Integrated Transport Plan.
