White Ribbon Accredited Workplace

Townsville City Council is committed to standing up, speaking out and ending family violence in our community. We have started the journey towards becoming an accredited White Ribbon Workplace. Together, we play a vital role in standing up, speaking out and ending all forms of family violence.

Mayor Jenny Hill and CEO Mike ChiodoStatistics show that domestic violence and family violence are the principal causes of homelessness for women and their children. One woman is killed every week in Australia as a result of domestic violence and one in four children are exposed to domestic violence.

Council needs to set the standard for respectful behaviour and gender equality in the community, at home and in the workplace. We can do this by standing up, speaking out and acting when we see things that we know aren’t right.

All Council staff are encouraged to get involved as we work together to bring about positive change, both at work and in the wider community.

At Council, we are taking an active step to challenge the status quo, to treat everyone with equality and respect and we encourage you all to join us.

As part of our White Ribbon journey, Council team members have taken the pledge to stand up, speak out and end all forms of family violence.

Together we can intervene and prevent family violence in our community.
