Townsville Regional Skills and Investment Strategy
Townsville City Council is partnering with the Queensland Government to identify skills gaps required for current and future job demands in our region. This approach will result in improved identification and matching of jobs in Townsville, guiding the training made available and supporting a ‘locals first’ employment approach.
The Townsville Regional Skills Investment Strategy (RSIS) is a two-year project focusing on three key industry sectors. The RSIS Coordinator will support broad engagement across these sectors and enable effective training solutions to be designed to support job outcomes. The Townsville RSIS project will be guided by local industry stakeholders through an engaged reference group.
The Townsville RSIS project will:
Identify current skills gaps and profile the skills needed within these target sectors
Analyse and review current training methods and identify any gaps
Work with local training organisations to identify delivery challenges experienced by local employers
Collaborate with local employers and the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) to develop local training solutions that meet our regional skills needs.
The key industry sectors identified for the Townsville region are:
|Mining||Construction||Health Care & Social Assistance|
Key outcomes of the Townsville RSIS project include:
Improved alignment of local training to local workforce needs
Promotion of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the Townsville region by encouraging employer engagement and participation
Identification of gaps in training service delivery and development of regional training opportunities to address local workforce needs
Engaging local industry and the community to identify training and skills issues and development of solutions in partnership with DESBT
Promotion of VET pathways and training available under the Queensland Government’s VET investment programs.
