Hugh Street and Fulham Road – Intersection Upgrade
|Goal||1. A city that connects you to what you need at the time you choose.|
|Strategic Purpose||Improve the liveability of Townsville and encourage active and healthy lifestyles by providing accessible public facilities, community infrastructure and creating placemaking activities.|
Project Update – July 2021
Townsville City Council is preparing to progress to the next stage of upgrade works at the intersection of Hugh Street and Fulham Road in Pimlico.
Preliminary drainage works within Anderson Park are expected to be completed in August. The extension of the existing open drain within Anderson Gardens will allow Council to commence significant upgrades to transform the intersection of Hugh Street, Fulham Road and Gulliver Street into a shared road, suitable for cyclists and pedestrians.
Council will undertake public tendering for the upgrade of the intersection throughout August 2021 with a view to award the construction contract by early October 2021.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to commence in November 2021 and completed by March 2022 (weather permitting).
Council will continue to update the community as these works progress.
This project is a joint initiative between Townsville City Council and the Queensland Government, partly funded under the Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program (CNLGG) and the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS).
To encourage people to ride, Council needs to provide accessible and safe facilities. The CNLGG supports councils to deliver best practice, high quality and safe cycling infrastructure and facilities.
As part of this project, Council will provide on-road cycle lanes and off-road shared pathways. Works will also include the modification of existing bus stops, road widening, drainage works, and upgrade works to the intersection to facilitate the installation of the on and off-road cycle infrastructure.
