Ingham Road Drainage Works

Project snapshot

The drainage infrastructure in West End is being upgraded to increase the stormwater drainage capacity in West End with the installation of pipes under Ingham Road.

New stormwater drainage pipes will be installed under the Greer Street/Ingham Road intersection, requiring significant changes to traffic conditions for up to eight weeks.

The inbound lane of Ingham Road from Church Street to Sturt Street will be closed for the duration of the work. It is strongly recommended that inbound traffic from the northern suburbs access the city via Woolcock Street.

Local traffic access will be maintained on Ingham Road for local businesses, West End residents and teachers and students at the Townsville West State School.

General inbound traffic will be diverted at Church Street onto the Ingham Service Road, exiting at Sturt Street where traffic conditions will be modified to allow for the changed traffic movement

The pipeline will be installed with open excavation and needs to pass under Ingham Road and the railway line.

Construction started in late July and is anticipated to take several months. A map of the alternative traffic route is included below.
