Sport & Recreational Grants

Council's Sport and Recreation Grants support sporting initiatives to assist the local Townsville sporting community though our Get Active Grants program which aims to:

  • build the capacity of not-for-profit Sport and Recreation Clubs focusing on the clubs ability to improve operations, profile and services to the community.
  • assist Townsville sports people to achieve excellence in their chosen sport by providing funding to attend National and International sporting competitions held outside of Townsville.

Elite Sportspersons Grants

This grant program aims to assist Townsville sportspeople to achieve excellence in their chosen sport by providing funding to attend National and International sporting competitions held outside Townsville.

Applications must be received by council before the commencement date of the event nominated in the application.

Elite Sportspersons Grants – Individual

Funding available

  • State selection (representing Queensland) $300. Subject to the availability of funding
  • National Selection (representing Australia) $500. Subject to the availability of funding

Elite Sportsperson  - Grant Acquittal Form

Townsville City Council requires that all recipients of the Elite Sportsperson Grant must complete an Acquittal within twenty eight (28) days, unless otherwise advised, of the completion of their project.

Elite Sportspersons Grants – Team

Teams must have four (4) or more athletes.

Funding available

  • State selection (representing Queensland) $900. Subject to the availability of funding
  • National Selection (representing Australia) $1500. Subject to the availability of funding

Elite Sportsperson  - Team Grant Acquittal Form

Townsville City Council requires that all recipients of the Elite Sportsperson Grant must complete an Acquittal within twenty eight (28) days, unless otherwise advised, of the completion of their project.

Club Capacity Building Grants

The aim of the Club Capacity Building Grant is to fund projects that achieve one or more of the following objectives:

  • Enhance the clubs capacity to provide ongoing recreation and sporting programs and activities
  • Promote and support leadership and skill development within the club.
  • Promote social inclusion and enable connection with the community for all members.
  • Support community lead action through projects that enable a club to develop, implement and sustain own actions to address needs in the community.
  • Build innovative and effective responses to emerging recreation, sporting and social issues/needs.
  • Increases the skills, knowledge and understanding of club volunteers (coaches, committee etc.) around general club operations and governance

Funding Rounds

There will be two grant rounds per year
