The purpose of the Steering Committee is to coordinate and accelerate the health, social and economic recovery of the North Queensland community and region from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NQ Business Advisory Group (NQBAG)

The Advisory Group reports to the Steering Committee and its Terms of Reference are to provide a voice and input from North Queensland businesses and community including:

  • Input to policy outcomes to support COVID-19 recovery across health, social, economic and employment dimensions; and
  • Feedback directly to the Steering Committee on the needs of the North Queensland community to accelerate the COVID-19 recovery.

NQ Recovery Acceleration Projects Committee (NQRAP)

The NQRAP’s Terms of Reference are to provide a voice for the North Queensland community on:

  • How best to accelerate recovery projects over at least the next five (5) years to support health, social, economic and employment outcomes for the region.
  • Ensure a coordinated approach to the delivery of accelerated projects for Townsville and the region and maximise opportunity.
  • Contribute to the leadership of working groups to oversee recovery projects to accelerate the health, social and economic recovery of Townsville.
  • Feedback directly to the Steering Committee and Council Executive on the needs of the Townsville Business Community to accelerate COVID-19 recovery.

Purpose: To provide short-term and long-term legacy initiatives and activities for Townsville to accelerate recovery for social wellbeing and economic stimulus.

Lead: Jamie Fitzpatrick (FGH Group).

Purpose: To identify acceleration projects to support the Defence Industry in the NQ region.

Lead: David Burke (Townsville City Council).
Members: Mick Reilly (Advisor), Mick Ferguson (NQ Defence Hub), Mark Horn (Cubic Defence Australia), David Mitchell (Townsville Hospital and Health Service), Allan Carpenter (James Cook University).

Purpose: To provide upskilling opportunities to the community including children, parents and job-seekers.

Purpose: To improve community resilience, social connectedness, physical activity and mental health within the Townsville region through community-focused programs.

Purpose: To identify acceleration projects to support the infrastructure and transport networks in the NQ region.

Purpose: To identify and coordinate new and existing major regional projects in the NQ region.

Purpose: To identify acceleration projects to support small businesses, entrepreneurs and provide employment opportunities in the NQ region.

Purpose: To identify and coordinate new and existing primary industries and manufacturing in the NQ region.

Purpose: To provide short-term and long-term initiatives and activities to support the social wellbeing and outcomes in the NQ region.

Purpose: To identify the best approaches to accelerate the recovery efforts for the tourism, hospitality and accommodation sectors in the NQ region.
