Venues from all over Townsville can take part in the 2021 Northern Fringe Festival from laneways, pubs and even sheds, from the CBD to the suburbs and beyond - any space can be a Fringe venue.

Townsville City Council will maintain an extensive database of brilliant venues of all shapes and sizes as they register that are available to all Fringe artists and producers, who will use it to find the perfect home for their show, exhibition or event. It's totally FREE to register your venue with us – we don't charge our venues anything to take part.

The Makers Workshop is set up in a creative way, full of inspiration, making it a perfect place to connect creatively with others. Also available are three other rooms: the LAB, the Big Gallery and the Little Gallery. Each room offering a unique feel to let your creativity run wild.

The following Fringe Hub venues may also be available for hire during the Northern Fringe Festival. Wonderland Spiegeltent

Wonderland Spiegeltent"Spiegeltent" is Dutch for mirror tent, these Belgium travelling dance halls have been graced by stars such as Edith Piaff and Marlene Dietrich for decades.

With its luxurious and exciting ambiance, the Wonderland Spiegeltent provides a truly unique, intimate circus, cabaret or theatre venue in a stylish, historic European setting, which comes complete with stained glass windows and mirrors.

  • Some seats will have slight obstructed view, recommend arriving early and line up to secure best seats.
  • There will be a bar inside and outside of the tent. This will be open one (1) hour prior and one (1) hour post each show.
  • This tent is accessible for people with disabilities and has a combination of booths and chairs.

Maximum capacity will be 350 and will be General Admission.

The May Wirth

The May WirthThe May Wirth is your classic circus big top tent that is perfect for events looking for that little extra something. It first came to Townsville in 2019 at both Strand Park and Queens Gardens for the North Australian Festival of Arts and Northern Fringe Festival.

Location: Strand Park, North Ward
Capacity: 300 maximum
Stage Dimensions:
* 10m deep x 7m deep
* .7m crossover
* Stairs down to backstage and into the audience

Venue Details:
* PWD accessible.
* There are two 'King poles' that create the peak of the tent.
* Seating will be straight on at ground level.
* Seating is tiered front on with 3 – 4 rows on the ground.
* Aerials available upon negotiation.

Empire Theatre

The Empire Theatre is a slightly more intimate venue still with the ability for aerials. It first came to Townsville in 2019 at Queens Gardens for the North Australian Festival of Arts and Northern Fringe Festival and will return in 2021.

Pinocchi’s Palace

Pinocchi’s Palace is a new festival hub venue for the Northern Fringe Festival 2021. Designed with our mascot Pinocchi in mind, this intimate tent is perfect for a range of Fringe Artists and their events allowing for a smaller crowd and ensuring that a “SELL OUT” season can be achieved.
