Venues from all over Townsville can take part in the 2020 Northern Fringe Festival from laneways, pubs and even sheds, from the CBD to the suburbs and beyond - any space can be a Fringe venue.

Townsville City Council will maintain an extensive database of brilliant venues of all shapes and sizes as they register that are available to all Fringe artists and producers, who will use it to find the perfect home for their show, exhibition or event. It's totally FREE to register your venue with us – we don't charge our venues anything to take part.

The hall is quite large, with a bar located in a large room adjacent to the main hall. The venue is close to the city with ample parking.

Large open hall, with a large second room off to the side. The venue is all on one level (no stage) and approx 100 chairs can fit with room for a large performance area. Speakers and Microphone on hand.

This beautiful old hotel just reopened in the middle of South Townsville and is  within walking distance to the city with loads of car parking available. 4 different spaces are available within the one venue.

  • A huge beer garden with an outdoor bar.
  • A 4m wide verandah that wraps the building with views over the city and Castle Hill.
  • A cute little cafe with high ceilings and beautiful heritage features.
  • An open room adjacent to the inside bar with high ceilings.

600+ capacity outdoor beer garden. Some sound and lighting equipment available. Inside bar with an adjacent open room that currently hosts comedy nights once a month.

The HUB Creative Space is a Creative Co-Working environment that supports the micro businesses of Townsville especially the Arts. It's a place full of handmade stories and inspiration. The venue address offers an alternative to the CBD or The Strand.

Shaka captures the true Island vibe. Shaka has proven to be hugely popular with locals and tourists who come to chill on the beanbags or play on the tree swing ( popular with adults).

Scallywags cafe provides a gateway for artists to access the island community and perform in the lively local meeting place we have become. We are BYO, family friendly and have hosted our own range of fire shows, flea circuses and musicians and are known in the community for our fringe flavour.

Small stage space within quirky pirate themed cafe... close to the ferry in Nelly Bay. Small pa, 6 channel mixing desk, microphones of varying quality, simple stage lighting adequate for the small space.

Fringe Hub Venues

The following Fringe Hub venues may also be available for hire during the Northern Fringe Festival. If you are interested in performing in one of the tents, please register your event and select yes to be considered for a Fringe Hub Venue. The Northern Fringe Festival Coordinator will then be in touch over the next few weeks to discuss.

Wonderland Spiegeltent

Wonderland Spiegeltent"Spiegeltent" is Dutch for mirror tent, these Belgium travelling dance halls have been graced by stars such as Edith Piaff and Marlene Dietrich for decades.

With its luxurious and exciting ambiance, the Wonderland Spiegeltent provides a truly unique, intimate circus, cabaret or theatre venue in a stylish, historic European setting, which comes complete with stained glass windows and mirrors.

  • Some seats will have slight obstructed view, recommend arriving early and line up to secure best seats.
  • There will be a bar inside and outside of the tent. This will be open one (1) hour prior and one (1) hour post each show.
  • This tent is accessible for people with disabilities and has a combination of booths and chairs.

Maximum capacity will be 350 and will be General Admission.

The May Wirth

The May WirthThe May Wirth is a circus big top available for festivals, wedding and all events that are looking for that little extra something.

  • The tent has two (2) ‘King poles’ that create the peak of the tent.
  • Some seats will have slight obstructed view, recommend arriving early and line up to secure best seats.
  • Seating will be set in a ‘C’ shape around the front and side of the stage which make it semi ‘in the round’.
  • This tent is accessible for people with disabilities and includes a combination of stools and chairs with a slight (1 step) raised section at the rear of the seating.

Maximum capacity will be 300 and will be General Admission.
