About Northern Stories

Townsville City Council and the National Australia Day Council present Northern Stories.

When reflecting on our history, respecting all cultures, and celebrating together – we do this through storytelling. Telling stories is one of the most important ways to connect, educate and inspire. Stories express the culture, history and ideals that tie people together.
We’re all part of the story. What story will you share?

Throughout January, we celebrate the stories of the North. We celebrate by recognising the contribution that every Australian brings to our diverse country.

From 15 – 26 January 2021, stories will be told from multiple locations through HALO – an immersive light show, live story sessions, family fun activities and non-stop entertainment. Come together and celebrate the things about our nation that we are proud of and grateful for. The opportunity to understand where we have come from, where we are today and where we go from here.

An unforgettable experience packed with FREE and fun activities.

HALO - Queens Gardens 15-26 January 2021

HALO - Life Below Water will illuminate Townsville through a series of sound and light art installations throughout Queens Gardens and Castle Hill. The sound and light festival will come to life with interactive light and sound displays, large scale art installations and include sessions where Townsville locals will share their stories, entitled Northern Stories.

This FREE community event will run nightly from 6:30pm in Queens Gardens from 15 – 26 January 2021. This event will build on the success of the inaugural event and is designed to allow for more interaction and engagement from attendees.

Designed to interweave entertainment and education with the overarching message of preserving and protecting life below water, HALO presents a unique opportunity to deliver something incredible and impactful for our community.

This project will run in conjunction with Northern Stories and will be delivered in partnership with AGB Events.
