About the Artwork
I endure the day like a nocturnal animal that curls up as much as possible to protect myself and waits for it to get dark. My vision is blurry and faint, but I am still in search of something that is only visible to me. My unconscious mind is completely awake, like a wild animal. Carefully lowering myself as low as possible in a place where no one can see me, I hold my breath for as long as possible in case I get hurt.
‘The object-I’ is symbolised by the same shape of pattern, and the object—the ego—wanders from place to place and puts myself into a ‘three-dimensional object’ symbolising ‘the environment’. ‘The object-I’ remains the same, but they change and look different depending on the environment, and maybe real changes will occur.
About the Artist
Jooyun Lim, originally from Seoul, Korea, moved to Australia over a decade ago after completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramic Arts. Inspired by the tranquillity of rural Queensland, she finds motivation in her natural surroundings, away from the competitiveness of her homeland. As a migrant in Australia, her work delivers her personal thoughts and experiences. The theme about her work included culture diverse and the range of human emotions as well as nature.
She often creates hand-built or wheel-thrown ceramics, slip cast to make the body, and carving or inlaying to add details. She also uses glass in her sculptural work. She has been a finalist and exhibited in statewide art awards, including Queensland Regional Art Awards as well as holding solo exhibitions in Victoria and Queensland.
