About the Artwork

This work explores the concept of nascence: the state of coming into being. The sculpture captures a moment of emergence, where growth, transformation, and potential coexist. Its organic, unfolding contours evoke natural processes of evolution and development. Identity is never static but is continuously shaped through change. The work is a reflection on the liminal space between what is known and what is yet to become, embracing uncertainty as a generative force. In celebrating becoming over completion, the sculpture offers a meditation on the quiet, persistent unfolding that underpins both nature and the human experience.

About the Artist

Alexis Mason is an emerging ceramic artist living and working as an Associate at JamFactory on Kaurna Country in Adelaide, South Australia. Her practice explores the material and spiritual interconnection of the natural world through an intuitive engagement with clay, where forms emerge through a slow, responsive process. Each mark generates the next, echoing patterns of growth, erosion, and time.

Alexis’s biomorphic vessels draw on both landscape and the human body, with their surfaces holding a sense of vitality and movement. Her work maintains a sensitivity to touch, inviting a physical encounter that reinforces connection between body, material, and environment.
