About the Artwork

Solidarity VI is part of a series exploring the individual and collective experiences of motherhood.

The piece has been glazed in a ‘floral’ crystal glaze and wood-fired in the Middle Pocket Pottery’s anagama kiln. This has delivered a complex but transitional surface, from the lighter, calmer back to the sweeping, dense crystals conglomerating at the front. This expression of the calm and the hectic is apt in the spectrum of experiences that early motherhood brings.

About the Artist

Amber Winter is a potter and early-career ceramic artist based in Kurilpa/South Brisbane. She has tertiary qualifications in science, medicine, management, and education. She approaches her ceramic practice with this background, applying a scientific method and endless curiosity.

Her ceramic interests lie particularly in exploring surface texture, glaze chemistry and atmospheric firing techniques. Amber’s work has been exhibited in a number of small group exhibitions, and she was a finalist in the 2025 Siliceous Award (Gwyn Hanssen Pigott Wood Fired Ceramics Award) and the 2026 Revival Emerging Artist Prize.
