About the Artwork
This portrait portrays the creative presence of artist Kate Fulton through movement and light, rather than fixed likeness. Long-exposure photography captures Kate tracing light using the habitual movements of her painting practice, translating an internal working process into a temporary visual form. The surrounding space becomes an extension of her canvas, activated through rhythm and impulse.
Rather than fixing the subject into a singular likeness, the portrait occupies a threshold between what is visible and what is withheld, allowing presence to surface briefly before dissolving. As an artist, Kate resists permanence, attending instead to the residual state that follows making, a moment of attunement, recorded only once.
About the Artist
Amy Jewell is a Townsville-based emerging artist with a background in photography, currently completing a Diploma of Visual Arts. Her practice investigates light and movement as tools for articulating presence through experimental photographic processes. Working primarily with long exposure and in-camera techniques, she explores how lived experience and creative states can be suggested without relying on literal representation. Amy’s work is concerned with translating the intangible; moments of rhythm, intuition, and embodied attention into visual form, using light as both medium and trace.
