About the Artwork
I chose to photograph Nicole in her studio to be part of my book of Artists in Studios, published late 2024, using light and movement to capture her in front of the Shibori. Transforming her to mesh mirrors her conceptual approach of utilising interaction as a sculptural strategy, transforming the creative process into dynamic dialogue between the artwork and her audience.
Her work is a form of Shibori without the dyeing. Enclosing objects that hold personal memories with recycled vegetable mesh bags and using light to induce movement, she softens the harshness of the mesh, creating gentle contours around enclosed items.
This methodology examines how moments fade and transform, leaving behind traces that shape perception of reality, allowing the work to be continuously reshaped and redefined by the behaviour and engagement of those who encounter it, breathing life into the pieces as evolving entities.
